Brent and Renee Dixon bought Durango Family Therapy in 2016, and this December the practice turns ten. We are a small group counseling practice on Main Avenue serving individuals, couples, and families across Durango and La Plata County, with clients from age 12 up. We have grown slowly on purpose, because the alternative is hiring faster than we can hire well.
We provide compassionate, evidence-based care that helps individuals, couples, and families build resiliency, heal, and thrive.
We describe our work as detective work. Symptoms are information, and our job is to trace them back to whatever is actually driving them. That takes clinicians with enough experience to sit with complexity, which is why we hire experienced therapists rather than filling chairs quickly.
We trace symptoms back to their source rather than managing them at the surface, so the progress you make holds.
EMDR, cognitive work, and other approaches with real research behind them, matched to what you actually need.
Confidential, warm, and paced by you rather than by a protocol or a session limit.
Our licensed therapists bring years of training and hands-on experience across anxiety and depression, trauma and EMDR, couples work, adolescents, and perinatal mental health. Several have practiced with us for five to seven years, and we match you with the clinician whose training best fits what you are facing.
We are co-owned by a married couple, which gives the practice the feel of a family business rather than a clinic. We accept cash, card, and most major insurance, we see clients age 12 and up, and we keep the path to a first appointment short.
Anxiety and depression, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, work stress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and perinatal mental health. Two of our clinicians are trained in EMDR and one holds the PMH-C certification in perinatal mental health. You can browse all of our services or go straight to the clinician who fits.

Therapy should not feel like a mystery before you walk in. Here is what the first stretch usually involves and what you can reasonably expect from the work.
Fill out the request form, tell us what is going on, and we match you with the clinician whose training fits best.
Our clinicians are licensed and bring years of practice, and you can keep working with the same therapist for as long as you need.
We revisit how the work is going rather than keeping you in therapy by default, and we adjust when something is not landing.
Cash, card, and most major insurance plans. We do not accept Medicaid or Medicare, and we will help you check your coverage.
Request an appointment today, or book a free 15-minute consultation if you are still deciding.
